Community Minority Cultural Center was founded in 1971 by community activists committed to social justice, education and empowerment in Lynn.

Founders associated with the organization include Abner Darby, Virginia Barton and Frances Taggart.

The organization grew into an important Lynn institution providing political, educational, cultural and social programs.

During the late 1990s, a major renovation project helped create the organization’s Union Street community center.
